Strike!!! Serie A looking at a quite weekend
December 1st 2010 13:13
Italian league players say they will strike on the weekend of Dec. 11-12 after union representative Sergio Campana walked out on collective bargaining talks.
Campana left the negotiations with Serie A on Tuesday despite a Nov. 30 deadline for reaching a resolution to the dispute, according to the ANSA news agency.
The union is refusing to accept a proposal that clubs be allowed to force unwanted players to train away from the first team or accept a transfer.
Giancarlo Abete, the president of the governing body of Italian soccer, will now accompany the sides to a hearing at the Italian Olympic Committee on Wednesday.
Serie A players went on strike in March 1996 over several issues, including the Bosman ruling, which established free agency for players whose contracts had expired.
