Road teams Cruise in First Qualifying Round
July 4th 2011 00:10
Sorry for the lateness of this post. I have been on vacation and just got back into town. The first matches of the 2011/2012 Champions League was all about the road clubs. Both F91 Dudelange and Valletta FC went into hostile areas and came over victorious. Nothing is assured yet for these clubs but both will host the next fixture with a chance to ensure the move on.
Dudelange scored two second half headers to defeat FC Santa Coloma 2-0. Jean- Sebastien Legros scored in the 57th minute while Jean- Philippe Caillet scored in the 79th. The winner of this match will take on the champion from Slovenia NK Maribor in the second round. Santa Coloma of Andorra will need a great showing to defeat the Luxembourg Champion Dudelange.
Valletta FC had a dominating performance from start to finish allowing only one shot on goal in their 3-0 spanking of SP Tre Fiori. Valletta scored two goals within 10 minutes spilt by the half to take a commanding lead. Denni scored in the 43rd minute then Alfred Effiong scored in the 50th minute to take control. Gilbert Agius scored on a penalty shot in the 70th minute to erase any doubt who would win this match. Valletta the Malta Champion will host Tre Fiori the San Marino champion in the next match with the winner facing the Lithuania champion FK Ekranas.
The next matches will take place on the 5th and 6th of July. Then the second round of qualifying will start the next week.
