Olymique Lyonnais looks to control Group B in Champions League
November 3rd 2010 15:54
Olymique Lyonnais started the Champions League Group play with three staright wins and looked as the favirote to win the group but a 4-3 lose to SL Benfica on Tuesday has put that into question. Lyon still leads the group with a 3-0-1 record and nine points but with FC Schalke 04 2-1-1 at seven points and SL Benfica 2-0-2 at six points it could be a little harder.
Lyon will tackle Schalke 04 on Nov 24 in Germany. Schalke 04 is coming off a 0-0 draw with Hapoel Tel-Aviv who has a 0-1-3 record and is out of contention to make it to the next stage.
Tel-Aviv will battle Benfica on Nov 24 at home and could still help determine the two teams who will advance.
Michael Bastos of Lyon has three goals to pace the group while Fabio Coentrao(Benfica) and Raul Gonzalez(Schalke) have two apiece.
Goal differental could play an important part on who advances. Lyon is plus four while Schalke is plus three. Benfica will need some help being minus one after four matches.
