New York felt an Earthquake. San Jose advances
November 5th 2010 10:26
The New York Red Bulls came into the game thinking this was their year. The beat San Jose 1-0 in San Jose last week and should easily win at home. Well, Bobby Convey scored two goals to put the Earthquake up 2-0 then Juan Pablo Angel scored in the 77th minute for New York to make it 2-1 San Jose but more important 2-2 in aggreate score for the series. So New York felt ok we will go to OT but that was a short thought as Chris Wondolowski scored in the 81st minute to give San Jose the win and the series.
Convey has three goals on the season now while Wondolowski has 19. New York's Angel has scored 14 for the Bulls.
San Jose will now wait for the winner between Columbus and Colorado in the Conference finals.
Report from ESPN.com
The San Jose Earthquakes advanced to the MLS Eastern Conference final as they secured a 3-2 aggregate victory courtesy of a dramatic 3-1 win at the New York Red Bulls.
Trailing 1-0 from the first leg, the Earthquakes quickly levelled the tie through Bobby Convey's strike after six minutes and when he grabbed a second with 14 minutes to play, they looked to be heading through.
Juan Pablo Angel scored for New York two minutes later to make things interesting, but when Chris Wondolowski notched San Jose's third three minutes later, there was no way back - even with former Barcelona striker Thierry Henry stepping off the bench.
The Earthquakes will face either the Columbus Crew or the Colorado Rapids in the final.
