Eight Road Warriors for the Europa League

July 5th 2011 21:07

Eight football clubs went on the road in their first matchups of the 2010/2011 Europa League and walked away with victories. Nothing is guaranteed in life or in football but these clubs have a great shot of advancing to the second round. All eight clubs will host the final matchup between the respectful clubs.

For those that don't know. Two clubs face each other in a home/home series with the aggregate score determing the club that advances to the next round.

Results:

Metalurgi Rustavi(Gerogia) 1-0 over FC Banants(Armenia) Irakli Kobalia scored in 48th Minute

Qarabag(Azerbaijan) 4-0 over FK Banga(Lithuania) Two goals from Vuqar Nadirov

FK Rabotnicki(FYROM) 4-1 over JK Trans Narva(Estonia) Three second half goals the difference

Tromso IL (Norway) 5-0 over FC Daugava Daugavpils(Latvia) Two goals from Magnus Anderson

KR Reykjavik(Iceland) 3-1 over IF Fuglafjordur(Faroe Islands) Three unanweserd goals after trailing

KS Vllaznia(Albania) 1-0 over Birkirkara FC(Malta) Xheyahir Sukaj scored only two mins into match

KS Flamurtari(Albania) 3-1 over FK Buducnost Podgorica(Montenegro) Two goals within two mins

Paksi SE(Hungary) 1-0 over UE Santa Coloma(Andorra) Gabor Vayer scored in 15th minute

Pleased that KR Reykjavik won- I went to Iceland a couple of years ago and have a soft spot for all things Icelandic.

However, since visiting, I don't think I've ever seen a result in an Icelandic team's favour, nor the national team's favour.

So for them to actually win a game is something special for me!!

Never been to Iceland. What i love about the Europa and Champions League is give these clubs most of us Americans have never heard about and gives them a chance at glory.
