The Champions League has hit the Playoff Stage of the competition. Twenty teams will play to earn their way into the group stage of the 2011/2012 Champions League. The Ten clubs that lose will not be done. They will move to the group stage of the Europa League.
The Matchups have some yawners and some great matchups that you would have expected to see in the group stage.
The Yawners to me: Poland's Wisla Krakon ranked 179 vs APOEL FC of Cyprus ranked 107, M. Haifa of Israel ranked 153 vs KRC Genk of Belgium ranked 161, Dinamo Zagreb from Croatia ranked 78 against Malmo FF ranked 285, Kobenhavn from Denmark ranked 41 against FC Viktoria Plzen of the Czech Republic ranked 214 and BATE ranked 70th from Belaruis will play against Strum of Austria ranked 151.
To clarify all ranking are their current club rankings from UEFA. Also these matches will probably be decent. Just none of them jump out at me. I see APOEL, KRC Genk, Dinamo Zagreb, Kobenhavn and BATE all advancing to the group stage.
In the matches that interest me.
OB(#114)(Denmark) vs Villarreal(#13)(Spain) Villarreal should win both legs. Just really want to see how the will start the year.
Twente(#44)(Netherlands) vs SL Benfica(#22)(Portugal) This should be the most exciting match out of the ten.
Arsenal FC(#5)(England) vs Udinese Calcio(#65)(Italy) Should be no problem for Arsenal but you never know.
Bayern Munchen(#4)(Germany) vs FC Zurich(#85)(Switzerland) Bayern starts quest to make finals at home.
Olympique Lyonnais(#11)(France) vs FC Rubin Kazan(#56)(Russia) My upset special i like the Russian side in this match up.
These legs will take part Aug16,17 and Aug23,24
