Can we just give Dortmund Bundesliga Title?

December 6th 2010 13:16

Borussia Dortmund is in command of the Bundesliga. With 40 pts thru 15 the are 10 points clear of second place Mainz. With a crazy plus 28 goal differental can we just go ahead and give them the title.

The real battle in the Bundesliga will be for the second spot in the Champions league.

Dortmund has not lost since opening day Aug 22 when the lost 2-0 to Bayer Leverkusen.

Dortmund is looking for their first league title since 2001-2002.

Top 5 teams in the Bundesliga:

1. Borussia Dortmund 40 pts
2. Mainz 30 pts
3. Bayer Leverkusen 29 pts
4. Hannover 96 28 pts
5. SC Freiburg 24 pts

Regulation trouble(bottom three go back)

15. Schalke 04 16 pts
16. VfB Stuttgart 12 pts
17. FC Cologne 12 pts
18. Borussia Monchengladbach 10 pts

Top goals scorers for the league are:
Theofanis Gekas 13
Papiss Demba Cisse 11
Hugo Almeida 9
Mario Gomez 9
Srdjan Lakic 9
Edin Dzeko 9

Top assists men:
Christian Tiffert 9
Jose da Silva Junior Ze Roberto 7

What was very surprising to me was the average attendance for a Bundesliga match is over 42,000.

Okay so i am know that the matches still have to be played and their is more than half the season to go but unless Dortmund just collapse the have this in the bag. Would not be surprised to see Bayern Munich creep up their and take the second spot but with a title battle between the next 7 to 8 clubs anything is possible.

Dortmund have been incredible with their player chemistry, midfield, and solid overall play. Dortmund also possess a great manager and just happen to be my favorite team in the BL. The problem is that Bayern Munich haven't been playing with their best player. We all know how dynamic Arjen Robben is, especially when you consider his importance and great play with the Netherlands while playing injured on the greatest scene in soccer- the World Cup. Robben is easily a top ten player, and his impact alone could win the league for Bayern. I am not ready to give Dortmund the crown just yet, although I wish I could. We have to wait a month after Robben's return as the chemistry and style of play gradually changes when a new player is brought back in the mix. After that, we will be able to clearly see which of the teams is better. Expect Schalke to be a darkhorse candidate.

How many teams have lost a lead of 10 points or more with half a season to go?

Dortmund really are impressing me this season!! and in answer to your question rick, unfortunately i have an answer!! My second season as a Newcastle fan 1995/96, we chucked away a 13 points lead with 15 games left! It can be done, but Dortmund look very strong!
