May 3rd 2008 18:35
Reports are popping up in the British press that Wayne Rooney's recent injury woes will keep him out of action until after the Champions League final in Moscow.
The most recent claims indicate that Rooney has suffered a hernia. Recovery for such a complaint depends greatly on the seriousness of the injury, but can last several weeks.
Previously, it was reported that the issue that kept Wayne Rooney out of action against Barcelona was a knock on the hip that he received during Manchester United's Premier League clash with Chelsea on 26 April.
Rooney did not play in the Red Devils' 1-0 second leg defeat of Barcelona due to injury. However, as one of the team's leaders in goals and assists, both the player and his club will surely want his name on the roster for the final.

UPDATE (3/5): Sir Alex Ferguson, while not discussing the nature of Wayne Rooney's injury, has insisted that he expects the forward to play a role in the Champions League final. In his post-match comments after United's 4-1 victory over West Ham, Ferguson stated that Rooney will most likely be back in action next week in the season finale against Wigan. In fact, according to the Scot, Rooney might have been on duty at West Ham, but the squad "felt it was just too early." Meanwhile, reports also favor Nemanja Vidic returning to the pitch against Wigan as well.
