Seven more teams went through from the UEFA Champions League group stage on Wednesday night – leaving four round of 16 berths to be decided on Matchday 6 in a fortnight.
Holders FC Internazionale Milano, former winners FC Barcelona and Manchester United, group debutants Tottenham Hotspur FC plus FC Schalke 04, Olympique Lyonnais and Valencia CF all secured progress in the fifth fixtures in Groups A to D. However, FC Rubin Kazan denied FC København the chance to join them with a game to spare and either of those sides can progress when these pools conclude on 7 December[ Click here to read more ]

New York felt an Earthquake. San Jose advances

The New York Red Bulls came into the game thinking this was their year. The beat San Jose 1-0 in San Jose last week and should easily win at home. Well, Bobby Convey scored two goals to put the Earthquake up 2-0 then Juan Pablo Angel scored in the 77th minute for New York to make it 2-1 San Jose but more important 2-2 in aggreate score for the series. So New York felt ok we will go to OT but that was a short thought as Chris Wondolowski scored in the 81st minute to give San Jose the win and the series

Barcelona holds slight lead in Group D of Champions League

FC Barcelona is coming off a draw with FC Kobenhaven. Barcelona 2-2-0 8 points and Kobenhaven 2-1-1 7 points look like the are in good position to advance to the knock out stage. Olymique Lyonnais started the Champions League Group play with three staright wins and looked as the favirote to win the group but a 4-3 lose to SL Benfica on Tuesday has put that into question. Lyon still leads the group with a 3-0-1 record and nine points but with FC Schalke 04 2-1-1 at seven points and SL Benfica 2-0-2 at six points it could be a little harder
